MBA Prep Curriculum
Program Time Line
The key elements of Career Prep's curriculum are:
- School Research and Selection: Even before the orientation seminar in March, MBAP Fellows are provided with guidelines and advice on effectively conducting preliminary school research. Fellows receive ongoing guidance from MLT staff and other Advisors to identify schools that are a good "fit" depending on a variety of factors, including but not limited to Fellow's career aspirations.
-
Individual Work-Plan: As Fellows refine their school choices, MLT staff and advisors assist Fellows to develop an action plan that guides them through the MBA application process. Action plans include universal steps such as industry research, resume development and mock interviewing, but also contain more specific guidance relative to application and essay strategy, including skills development exercises, volunteer work, relationship-building, and leadership opportunities in order to address perceived strengths and weaknesses.
-
Industry Research and Career Guidance: With significant input from our industry-leading corporate partners, MLT holds workshops and provides ongoing guidance to Fellows in order to finalize targeted opportunities, resumes, and personal "stories." Successful Fellows are also invited to apply for pre-MBA internships and MLT-specific fellowhip opportunities.
-
Writing Skills: In addition to writing workshops at the weekend-long seminars, MBAP Fellows receive writing assignments at least once a month. These assignments are designed not only to sharpen Fellows' technical writing skills, but also to induce Fellows to hone their individual writing styles and unique narrative.
-
Interviewing Skills: In addition to mock interviews conducted by MLT Staff, MBAP Fellows also have the opportunity to receive feedback from other Advisors, including recently matriculated MLT alumni and Admissions officers from MLT's partner business schools.
-
GMAT Preparation: Demonstrating strong quantitative skills is an important part of the MBA application. MLT has developed partnerships with leading test preparation organizations such as the Princeton Review Foundation, Bell Curves, and the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC). Besides offering discounts on various GMAT preparation course offerings, these partners offer time and services to the program that maximize the value provided to the MBAP Fellows.
-
Financial Planning: It is important to evaluate one's financial capacity and commitment to the MBA application process early on. To that end, MBA Prep and our partner business schools provide Fellows with detailed estimates of the costs they may incur while attending business school and information regarding loans, fellowships, scholarships, and other resources that assist Fellows budget properly for the MBA.
