The Career Advancement Program (CAP)

The Career Advancement Program mission is to offer an unparalleled developmental experience at a point of transition from individual contributor to junior or middle manager or the equivalent for the minority top tier professional.

In partnership with the Yale University School of Business Management, CAP is creating a talent development training system to help young leaders develop their analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

CAP's unique experience offers fellows:

  1. A high-performing peer community to remove the destabilizing
sense of isolation to enable career loft from this bench to leadership
  2. A long-term career guidance relationship to support a smooth landing, deliver career horizon insight, and
    build performance excellence over time
  3. A personalized
experience through coaching that helps to identify each CAP Fellow's
areas for emphasis, improvement, and attention and then bridge the gaps to excellence
  4. A comprehensive curriculum that includes in-class, on-line,
phone-based, and web-based content delivery to fuel near term and long term success
    and advancement.

CAP Fellows will develop:

  • Insight into what it means to
establish yourself as someone who “gets it”, knows how to get things
    done, and deliver results
  • The hard and soft skills required
to build credibility and confidence and communicate concisely
  • An understanding of how to solicit
    feedback and then exceed expectations
  • An appreciation of “little things”
that can make or break reputations
  • Clear goals and a roadmap,
membership to a high-performing peer network, a “personal board of directors”, and
relationship management skills to guide development
  • Greater confidence in skill set
    and capabilities
  • Decision-making tools to better navigate
    organizations and career opportunities

CAP is set to launch its pilot partners and inaugural class in the fourth quarter of 2008.
